Indian opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his county debut with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC) in the upcoming Royal London One-Day Cup.
His splendid form ahead of the tournament is evident, with a remarkable half-century in the team’s second XI match on Tuesday, August 1, where he scored 65 runs off 39 deliveries.
Expressing his excitement over the opportunity, Shaw thanked Northamptonshire for providing him with a chance to showcase his skills. He stated,
“It’s a great opportunity for me, and I’m really thankful to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here. It’s going to be amazing, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Originally scheduled to play two first-class games as well for Northamptonshire, Shaw unfortunately had to miss those matches due to a visa delay. The 23-year-old last played for India in July 2021 and was part of the T20I squad for the home series against New Zealand earlier this year but didn’t feature in the playing XI.
In the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Shaw’s performance with Delhi Capitals (DC) was underwhelming, leading to his exclusion from the playing XI after the first six outings. However, he made a strong comeback with an impressive half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) before the season concluded. Overall, Shaw managed to score 108 runs from eight matches at a disappointing average of 13.25.
Now, with the Royal One-Day Cup on the horizon, Prithvi Shaw is determined to make the most of his chances and regain his spot in the national side. His county debut presents an excellent opportunity to reaffirm his batting prowess and reclaim his position among India’s elite cricketing talents.
As fans eagerly await Shaw’s county debut, they hope to witness the young prodigy once again showcasing his exceptional skills on the field. His hunger to prove himself and his passion for the sport will undoubtedly make him a player to watch in the upcoming tournament.
Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are excited to see Prithvi Shaw in action and cheer him on as he embarks on this new chapter in his promising cricketing career.
