Some reports are suggesting that Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma might opt out of the upcoming Test series against England. According to India Today, sources close to the team have confirmed that Rohit has already made this decision, primarily due to his dismal performance in red-ball cricket.

During the recent Test series against Australia, Rohit managed to score only 31 runs across three matches, eventually opting out of the final game in Sydney.

This development raises eyebrows, especially as India prepares to embark on a challenging 45-day tour to England, set to kick off with the first Test at Headingley on June 20.

The Indian squad aims to secure its first away series victory in England since 2007. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Virat Kohli is likely to maintain his place in the squad, further intensifying discussions around team dynamics.

In preparation for the Test series, some key Indian players may participate in an ‘A’ squad to face the England Lions in two four-day matches. The first of these matches will be hosted at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury from May 30, followed by the second match beginning on June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton.

As the countdown to the England tour begins, the focus turns to the selectors, who have a crucial task ahead. In particular, Karun Nair has emerged as a strong contender for inclusion, exhibiting exceptional form during the 2024-25 domestic season.

Nair was the leading run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and has shown remarkable consistency in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 863 runs at an impressive average of 54.

With the IPL knockouts slated for May 20-25, the selectors have ample time to finalize the squad, shedding light on which players will depart for England. As discussions surrounding Rohit continue to unfold, fans and cricket enthusiasts eagerly await official announcements regarding the Indian team’s lineup.
