Opener Rohit Sharma is set to retain his captaincy as India gears up for a challenging five-Test tour of England. According to reports from PTI, Rohit Sharma’s leadership remains intact if he is fit, despite facing setbacks in his recent performances against New Zealand and Australia in late 2024. His experience and skill make him an invaluable asset as the team looks to conquer English conditions.
As the announcement for India’s squad for the Test series is anticipated in the second week of May, a host of talented players are under consideration. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to trim the squad to 15 or 16 members for this series, which traditionally features a larger reserve pool.
The India A team is set to play concurrently against the England Lions, providing flexibility for call-ups if needed. This strategic approach allows for adjustments based on player performances in the series ahead.

Several standout names from the domestic circuit appear on the radar, fueled by impressive performances in the recent Ranji Trophy season. Among them is Karun Nair, who has shined in both red- and white-ball formats and is expected to feature in the A tour before potentially earning a spot in the Test squad.
If all players are fit, the core of the Test team is likely to consist of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli as automatic selections. The all-rounder position is expected to be filled by Nitish Kumar Reddy for the time being.
Meanwhile, a competitive pool of at least six players, including Sai Sudharsan, Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sarfaraz Khan, will be vying for a spot in the Test side.
