In a significant move ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced the appointment of Mo Bobat as their Director of Cricket.

Bobat, a highly influential figure in English cricket, has been a pivotal force behind England’s remarkable success in recent years. His wealth of experience and expertise makes him a valuable addition to the RCB franchise.

With a career spanning 12 years at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Bobat served as the Performance Director since 2019. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in revolutionizing England’s approach to the game, resulting in the team’s triumph in the T20I and ODI World Cups, along with a thrilling Ashes performance.

Bobat reunites with RCB head coach Andy Flower, and their partnership promises to bring back the glory days for the franchise. Their previous collaboration with the England cricket team bore fruit, and they now aim to replicate that success with RCB.

One of Bobat’s primary responsibilities with the ECB was identifying, developing, and preparing a vast pool of players across various formats. In his new role with RCB, he will oversee talent recruitment and performance plans while establishing a strong cultural and high-performance foundation for the team’s long-term success.

Expressing his thoughts on this appointment, Prathmesh Mishra, Chief Commercial Officer of Diageo India and Chairman of RCB, emphasized the franchise’s performance-oriented approach and its commitment to creating a culture that embodies the “playbold” philosophy. Mishra believes that Bobat’s experience and expertise will lead RCB to newer heights of excellence.

Rajesh V Menon, Vice President & Head of Royal Challengers Bangalore, also expressed confidence in Bobat’s ability to contribute significantly to the franchise’s long-term elite performance strategy.

In response to his appointment, Mo Bobat shared his excitement and pride in joining RCB as Director of Cricket. He acknowledged the stability and consistency brought by Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar in recent years and expressed his honor in serving one of the most recognizable franchises in the world with a dedicated fan base.
