Chennai Super Kings has reached into the IPL final for the tenth time under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni after a stunning 15-run victory in the first qualifier match of the Indian Premier League against Gujarat Titans. More than this, CSK can bid farewell to captain Dhoni by winning their fifth title as this could be the last tournament of this legendary Indian cricketer.
After the victory in the final match, when famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle asked Dhoni the question, ‘Will he return to play in Chennai next season as well?’ So Dhoni replied smilingly.
The World Cup-winning captain said, “I don’t know. I have 8-9 months to decide. Why take that headache now, I will always be there for CSK, whether it is inside or outside the game.”
Talking about CSK reaching 10th final, he said, “IPL is a very big tournament so to say another final would not be fair. Earlier there used to be top 8 teams, now it is 10. I would not say that it is only, there is another final. It’s been two months of hard work. Everyone has contributed. Yes, the middle order hasn’t got enough chances. Gujarat is a great team and they have chased very well, so thought to get them in.”
At the beginning of the match, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first, which backfired. Dhoni also admitted that losing the toss was good for CSK. He said, “But it was good to lose the toss.”
CSK players will now get three days rest before the final match to be held on 28 May. The Gujarat team will prepare for the second qualifier to be held tomorrow on May 26 against the winner of the eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians.
