Playing under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, young Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana bowled amazingly in IPL 2023. The 20-year-old bowler took 17 wickets in the 11 matches he played this season, this season Dhoni made the best use of his bowling. Whenever the team needed a wicket, the young bowler helped the team with his excellent bowling.
Matheesha Pathirana, who joined the Chennai team last year, bowled brilliantly in the death overs. This season he gave his best performance while playing against Mumbai Indians. In this match, he took three wickets for 15 runs in four overs. He was also given the title of Man of the Match for this brilliant performance.

MS Dhoni met Pathirana’s family after making it to the final of IPL 2023. Pathirana’s sister Vishuka Pathirana shared some pictures of this meeting on social media. Posting the pictures, she wrote, “Now we are sure that Malli is in safe hands when Thala said ‘You don’t need to worry about Matheesha, he is always with me’. These moments were like a dream for me.”
Mathisha Pathirana is popularly known as ‘Baby Malinga’. His bowling action is very similar to former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga. Pathirana has bowled brilliantly for Chennai this season under the guidance of MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo.
