Cricket is about to start an exciting new chapter with the launch of Test Twenty, officially announced on Thursday, October 16. This revolutionary format, created by sports entrepreneur Gaurav Bahirvani, Executive Chairman of The One One Six Network, is planned to be the fourth official format in international cricket.

Test Twenty aims to bridge the gap between the long and short versions of the game, combining the strategy of Test cricket with the fast pace of T20I. It is designed to attract fans of both styles.

How the Format Works:

Test Twenty brings the serious nature of a Test match into the excitement of a T20I. The match will have a total of 80 overs. Each team will bat twice, playing two innings of 20 overs each. All the traditional Test cricket results—a win, loss, tie, or draw—are kept, even though the whole game is finished in a single day. This fits the habits of modern TV viewers and broadcast schedules.

A key part of this initiative is the revolutionary AI Discovery Engine. This advanced platform uses video analysis, motion sensors, and data science to assess a player’s performance and potential completely without bias.

Through partnerships (Tech-Transfer Partnerships or TTP), this technology will be made available to cricket boards and academies worldwide. This move is intended to implement fair, non-corrupt, and data-verified ways of finding new talent.

The Launch and the Legends:

Test Twenty

Test Twenty has the support of some of the game’s greatest players, including Harbhajan Singh, AB de Villiers, Sir Clive Lloyd, and Matthew Hayden, all of whom are members of the advisory board. The first season is set to launch in January 2026 with six international franchises.

Three teams will be based in Indian cities, and the other three will come from Dubai, London, and the United States. Each team will have 16 players, consisting of eight Indian and eight foreign players, creating an exciting mix of local young talent and international stars.
