The Indian women’s cricket team has made history on Australian soil. After a long wait of 10 years, the Women in Blue secured a massive 2-1 T20I series victory against Australia. The final blow came on Saturday at the Adelaide Oval, where India defeated the hosts by 17 runs in a thrilling series decider.

The foundation of this historic win was a spectacular 121-run partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues. After losing opener Shafali Varma early, Mandhana smashed a brilliant 82 off 55 balls, while Rodrigues supported her with a solid 59 off 46 deliveries.

Together, they took the Australia bowling attack apart for 11 overs. Later, Richa Ghosh added a quick 18 runs, helping India post a challenging total of 176 for six. Although India lost four wickets in the final two overs, the damage was already done.

When it was time to bowl, India was relentless. Shreyanka Patil was the star with the ball, taking three wickets for just 22 runs. Her opening spell destroyed the Australia top-order, leaving them struggling at 63 for four within nine overs.

The dangerous Ashleigh Gardner tried to fight back with a half-century (57 off 45 balls), but her innings ended when Jemimah Rodrigues took an incredible athletic catch in the outfield.

With Gardner gone, the hopes of Australia faded quickly. Bowlers N. Shree Charani (3/32) and Arundhati Reddy (2/35) clinical finishes ensured India stayed on top. This is only the second time India has ever won a T20I series against Australia.

The last time this happened was in 2016 under Mithali Raj’s captaincy, also on Australian soil. Back then, India won the series 2-1, just as they have done today. This victory marks a new era for Indian cricket, proving they can beat the world’s best in their own backyard.
