India’s campaign at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics was a mixed bag of performances, with some athletes bringing home medals while others narrowly missed out on the coveted prizes.

The Indian contingent showcased their skills in various events, from July 26th to August 11th, with a focus on sports like athletics, wrestling, and shooting.

Medal Winners and Standout Performances:

India’s medal count at the Paris Olympics was impressive, with a total of 6 medals won across various disciplines.

The standout performers included, Shooter Manu Bhaker led the charge, securing two bronze medals – one in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event and another in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event alongside Sarabjot Singh on 7th August. Swapnil Kusale also added a bronze to India’s medal count in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event on 1st August at Paris.

The Indian Men’s Hockey team further fueled the nation’s pride with a hard-fought bronze medal victory on 8th August defeating Spain. And in a moment of individual glory, Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal on 8th August in the Men’s Javelin Throw, cementing his position as one of India’s most celebrated athletes.

Rounding out the medal haul, Aman Sehrawat secured a bronze medal in the Men’s 57kg Freestyle Wrestling event on 9th August.

These victories proves that how our players showed dedication, hard work, and determination in Paris Olympics. They have not only brought glory to their nation but also inspired generations to come, paving the way for a brighter future for Indian sports.

The Indian team’s overall performance was encouraging, with several athletes making their mark on the international stage.

Narrow Misses:

While India’s medal count was impressive, there were several athletes who narrowly missed out on the coveted prizes. Lovlina Borgohain, the Indian boxer, put up a valiant effort in the welterweight category but lost to the eventual bronze medalist in a closely contested match. Nikhat Zareen, another Indian boxer, also lost in the quarterfinals of the flyweight category.

In athletics, Dutee Chand failed to qualify for the final round of the women’s 100m sprint event. Despite these setbacks, India’s athletes showed promise and will look to improve their performances in future events.

At the Paris Olympics, India had a number of athletes who finished in fourth place, just missing out on medals. In badminton, Lakshya Sen was defeated by Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match, marking the first time in 12 years that India’s shuttlers would not bring home a medal. In shooting, Manu Bhaker and Arjun Babuta both narrowly missed out on bronze medals in the women’s 25m air rifle and men’s 10m air rifle events, respectively.

In archery, Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara made history by becoming the first Indian pair to reach the medal stages, but ultimately lost out on the podium.

Additionally, Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka finished fourth in the skeet mixed team shooting event, just one point behind the bronze medal-winning Chinese pair.

Disappointments:

Unfortunately, some Indian athletes failed to live up to expectations at the Paris Olympics. PV Sindhu, one of India’s top badminton players, struggled to find her rhythm and lost in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles event. Lovlina Borgohain’s loss in the welterweight category was also a disappointment, as she was expected to make a deeper run in the tournament.

Nikhat Zareen’s early exit from the flyweight category was also a letdown. Despite these disappointments, India’s athletes will learn from their experiences and work towards improving their performances in future events.

Expectations from Los Angeles 2028:

As India looks towards the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, there are several areas where they can improve. The Indian team will need to focus on developing their skills and building their endurance levels to compete with the best athletes in the world.
