England head coach as well as the chief selector Chris Silverwood’s future is likely to be decided by the meeting between the ECB Board of directors. As per the latest reports in the media of England, Silverwood could well be the ‘fall guy’ following Joe Root and company 4-0 defeat in the Ashes series this winter against the arch-rivals with humiliation.
England team director and former player Ashley Giles sent a detailed report to Andrew Strauss, who currently chairs the ECB’s performance cricket committee and board chairman Tom Harrison. Silverwood came under a lot of scrutiny when England went to Australia for the Ashes tour and the visitors got hammered by 0-4 and got completely dominated by the hosts. There were several selection blunders he and the skipper Joe Root made during the five Tests.
The England pacers duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad were not included in the squad for the opening Test at the Gabba. The visitors surprisingly decided to bat first in seamer-friendly conditions in Brisbane, and Jack Leach was not included in the squad in Adelaide, where the pitch was friendly enough for spinners.
