CSK

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have completed a four-player trade ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards moving to Chennai, while fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis will join Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the deal on Thursday, November 5.

The trade brings a fresh opportunity for Livingstone, who is expected to play a more significant role at CSK after a limited outing with SRH last season. The deal also allows both franchises to make changes to their squads, particularly in their overseas and pace-bowling departments.

Livingstone Joins CSK at a Reduced Price

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone will join Chennai Super Kings for INR 6 crore, considerably lower than the INR 13 crore SRH paid to acquire him at the IPL 2025 mini-auction.

Livingstone was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning campaign in IPL 2025 before moving to SRH. However, his opportunities were limited in the following season, as he featured in just two matches for the Hyderabad-based franchise.

CSK will hope the England international can make a greater impact in their setup. Known for his power-hitting and ability to contribute with the ball, Livingstone offers flexibility in the middle order and provides an additional all-round option.

Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards will also move to Chennai at his existing contract fee of INR 3 crore. Edwards did not feature in a single match for SRH during IPL 2026 and will now look to make his mark with CSK.

Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis Move to SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad have strengthened their pace-bowling resources by bringing in Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis from Chennai Super Kings. Both bowlers had injury-disrupted campaigns last season.

Ellis was signed by CSK for INR 2 crore and was expected to take up an important role in the death overs, particularly as the franchise looked to fill the gap left by Matheesha Pathirana. However, the Australian pacer suffered a hamstring injury during the domestic One-Day Cup final ahead of the IPL and was ruled out of the entire season. CSK subsequently brought in Spencer Johnson as his replacement.

Khaleel, meanwhile, managed to play only five matches for Chennai before a quadriceps injury brought his campaign to an early end. The left-arm pacer will now return to a franchise he knows well, having represented SRH between 2018 and 2021.

Both Franchises Look to Reshape Their Squads

The four-player exchange gives CSK additional options in their batting and all-round department, while SRH have added two experienced fast bowlers to their bowling attack.

For Livingstone and Edwards, the move offers an opportunity for more playing time and a fresh start. Meanwhile, Ellis and Khaleel will aim to put their injury concerns behind them and deliver consistent performances for Hyderabad.

With preparations for IPL 2027 gathering pace, both franchises will be looking to make the most of their squad adjustments ahead of the upcoming season.
