This will not be the first time when 10 teams will feature in the tournament. In the fourth edition of the tournament there were 10 teams- Rising Pune Supergiants and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In the very next year, Kochi was banned. And later in the 2014 edition, the number was brought down to 8.
BCCI has already stated that IPL-2022 edition will have a mega option which will allow teams to buy players according to their combinations. 2 new teams are still not confirmed.

Here’s a look at the Cities that are the front-runners for IPL-2022
PUNE
Pune is assumed to be the topmost Contender for the IPL. It has already been a part of IPL two times . Once as Pune Warriors India from 2011 to 2013 and secondly as Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017. Rising Pune Supergiants part of IPL when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were banned. MCA stadium in Pune will be the home ground for the franchise. It has hosted many international games.
AHMEDABAD
Ahmedabad had previously been part of IPL which makes it a top contender for the next edition. Newly built Shri Narendra Modi stadium with the capacity of 132000 ,largest stadium in the world. It has hosted the recently concluded T20 Series and the pink ball test match.
It is also hosted few IPL matches. The playoffs schedule in Ahmedabad but due to arise in covid cases that ornament is shifted to UAE. Gujarat Lions were the part of IPL in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
LUCKNOW
The capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow is likely to be the part of 15th season. Ekana stadium has hosted few international games as well as many domestic games including duleep trophy and has a seating capacity of 50000.
In 2019, ekana Stadium was handed over to the Afghanistan cricket board as their home ground. It has hosted a series against west indies . India women team recently played a T20 and a one day series in Lucknow. Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice president is confident and excited to have a franchise from the city of nawabs. OTHER VENUES, & AAKASH CHOPRA’S VIEW ON THE TWO NEW FRANCHISES
A renowned cricketer and commentator picks his new teams for the 2022 IPL. In his YouTube channel he talked about the regions from which the teams come as it can play a big role in choosing the two cities.
“The BCCI has divided India into five zones for Ranji Trophy cricket. South already has three teams – RCB, CSK and SRH. North has teams in Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. West, Central and East have one team each. So the first thing is let’s go to places where they don’t have enough teams. So we will have to leave out South and North. Secondly, we should also look at the population of the state”, said Chopra.
From the eastern part of India, Aakash picked Cuttack, Ranchi and Guwahati. He eventually thinks Ranchi can be the front runner. It has hosted more number of matches as compared to the other two venues. The expert explained that the facilities in Guwahati and Cuttack can go against them. Chopra thinks Lucknow and Indore can be the potential venues. Indore has hosted more international and the crowd has always been sporting whereas Lucknow’s Ekana stadium is well built and has more facilities. He finally came up with the decision that Lucknow should be the part of IPL 2022.From the western part, Aakash nominated Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Nagpur. But he finally voted for Ahmedabad as it has a gigantic stadium with whooping 132000 seating capacity whereas Nagpur and Rajkot has very less seating capacity in comparison to it. Chopra picks three teams – Ahmedabad , Lucknow and Ranchi as the potential teams. As BCCI has to include only to teams as Chopra said that he’ll pick Lucknow and Ahmedabad as favorites for the 2022 edition of the IPL.
