Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has made significant changes to their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with the appointment of former South African fast-bowler Charl Langeveldt as their new bowling coach. This move is part of a broader effort to revamp the team’s performance and improve their chances of success.
Charl Langeveldt, who has been part of the South Africa coaching team in two stints, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has also served as the bowling coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings. His appointment is seen as a major coup for Zimbabwe Cricket, and fans will be hoping that his expertise will help turn around the team’s fortunes.

In addition to Langeveldt’s appointment, Zimbabwe have also named Justin Sammons as their head coach and Dion Ebrahim as their batting coach. Sammons, who previously worked with the South Africa men’s team as a batting consultant, will lead the team alongside Langeveldt. Ebrahim, a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played 29 Tests and 82 ODIs, will bring his knowledge and experience to the batting coach role.
Other new additions to the coaching staff include Ravish Gobind, who has been appointed as Strategic Performance Coach, and Curtly Diesel, who will serve as Strength and Conditioning Coach. The team’s Physiotherapist, Amato Machikicho, will continue in his role.

The appointments were made in consultation with Sammons, who was part of the process that led to the resignations of Dave Houghton as head coach and several other members of the coaching staff. The new coaching team was recommended by the Mhishi Committee of Inquiry, which was established to investigate Zimbabwe’s failure to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The five-match T20I series against India is set to get underway on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club. This will be Zimbabwe’s fourth bilateral T20I series against India, and fans will be hoping that the new coaching team can help them make a positive impact against one of the top teams in international cricket.
