Jasprit Bumrah, the star pace bowler for Mumbai Indians (MI), is set to miss the first few matches of IPL 2025 due to a persistent back injury that has sidelined him since January. As Bumrah continues his recovery, fans are eagerly waiting for news on his return, which is expected by early April, pending clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Bumrah suffered a stress-related injury in his lower back during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney on January 4, which ultimately led him to miss the Champions Trophy that India recently won. This marks the first bout of back issues Bumrah has faced since his surgery in March 2023.

Over the months, he has navigated a cautious recovery plan after being advised by medical personnel to rest for at least five weeks following the SCG Test, which explains his absence from the final Champions Trophy squad.

Mumbai Indians are scheduled to kick off their IPL campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23, followed by a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 29. MI’s first home match is on March 31 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), before facing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7.

Given Jasprit’s unique bowling action, he has historically been susceptible to back injuries, prompting both the BCCI and MI’s management to be cautious about his workload. Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond, who has collaborated closely with Bumrah as MI’s bowling coach, expressed concern that another injury could be catastrophic for the pacer’s career. According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah may likely to join Mumbai Indians in early April.

With a demanding season ahead, including a five-Test series in England starting in June, Bumrah’s health will be paramount for both MI and the Indian national team. Fans will be keeping a close eye on the situation as Bumrah aims for a timely return to action!
