In IPL 2024 season, Mumbai Indians find themselves in a precarious position, grappling with a string of defeats and internal discord. The much-touted change in captaincy has not yielded the desired results, as the team languishes at the bottom of the points table after losing their first two matches.

The atmosphere at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, was charged with anticipation as they geared up for their 250th game against the Rajasthan Royals. However, the match got off to a disastrous start for the Mumbai outfit.

Despite a warm reception from the crowd, Rohit Sharma, the local hero, suffered an early dismissal, falling victim to Trent Boult’s left-arm pace. This marked Sharma’s unfortunate entry into the record books, equalling Dinesh Karthik’s record for the most number of ducks in IPL history.

Boult continued to wreak havoc, dismissing Naman Dhir in the very next ball with a delivery that trapped him plumb in front of the wickets. Despite a review, Dhir had to depart as the ball tracker confirmed the umpire’s decision.

The woes for Mumbai Indians compounded as Dewald Brevis, their ‘Impact Sub’, also fell for a golden duck in Boult’s next over. Attempting a cover drive, Brevis could only manage an edge that flew straight to Nandre Burger at short third man.

Within the span of just a few overs, Mumbai Indians found themselves reeling at three wickets down, with none of their top-order batsmen managing to open their account on the scoreboard.

As the Mumbai Indians face this early setback in their IPL campaign, they will need to regroup and strategize effectively to turn their fortunes around and reclaim their winning form in the upcoming matches.
