The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das as the new T20I captain for the upcoming seven-match away series against UAE and Pakistan. Offspinner Mahedi Hasan will serve as his deputy. This move sees Das replace Najmul Hossain Shanto, who stepped down from the captaincy earlier this year.
Das has prior experience leading the side, having captained Bangladesh in a T20I series against the West Indies last December when Shanto was sidelined by injury. His appointment comes shortly after his participation in the ongoing PSL 10 with Karachi Kings was cut short due to a finger injury sustained in training.

The BCB’s announcement coincides with the confirmation of Bangladesh’s tour to Pakistan. Originally part of the Future Tour Programme (FTP) featuring three ODIs and three T20Is, both boards have agreed to swap the ODIs for two additional T20Is, aligning with preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup.
The five-match PAK v BAN T20I series will be held from May 25 to June 3. Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium will host the first two matches on May 25 and 27, marking the return of international cricket to the venue after a 17-year gap. The final three T20Is will be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 30, June 1, and 3.
