Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma has emerged as a potential trade candidate ahead of the IPL 2027 retention deadline on November 17. The 28-year-old could move to another franchise in a deal that may involve a fast bowler heading in the opposite direction.
Although the details of the possible exchange remain unclear, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are among the franchises being discussed as potential destinations. Both teams are understood to be looking to strengthen their batting, particularly their finishing options.
Gujarat Titans Had Approached Delhi Capitals
According to Cricbuzz, Gujarat Titans had approached Delhi Capitals a couple of months ago to enquire about Ashutosh. However, the Capitals did not respond immediately to the proposal.
With a new management group and head coach in place, Delhi could reconsider the offer ahead of the retention deadline.
Ashutosh has built a reputation as a dependable finisher, having produced important contributions for both Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. His ability to score quickly under pressure makes him an attractive option for teams looking to strengthen their lower middle order.
Gujarat Titans are particularly believed to be considering changes in this department and could be contemplating releasing Shahrukh Khan.

Gujarat and LSG Have Several Fast-Bowling Options
Gujarat Titans have a strong group of fast bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kagiso Rabada, Arshad Khan, Gurnoor Brar, Kulwant Khejroliya and Ishant Sharma.
The franchise had also reportedly explored a separate trade involving fast bowler Ashok Sharma in exchange for a finisher a few months ago. However, that proposal did not progress. Ashok, who played two T20Is for India in July, has been out of action since.
Lucknow Super Giants also have considerable pace-bowling depth, with Prince Yadav, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Anrich Nortje, Mayank Yadav, Akash Singh and Arjun Tendulkar among their options.
Both franchises could therefore explore squad adjustments to address their batting requirements.
Delhi Capitals’ Need for Fast Bowlers
Delhi Capitals acquired Ashutosh for INR 3.8 crore at the mega auction two years ago. Last season, he scored 171 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of over 180.
He is currently representing Gujarat in domestic cricket after switching from Madhya Pradesh earlier this year.
Delhi, meanwhile, have reasons to consider adding to their pace attack. The franchise recently traded T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad and remains uncertain about Mitchell Starc’s availability for the upcoming season.
With the November 17 deadline approaching, Ashutosh’s name adds another potential deal to the growing list of IPL trade discussions. However, no agreement involving the Delhi batter has been confirmed yet.
