The hashtag #ArrestKohli has suddenly become a trending topic on social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and criticism. This surge in online discussions is linked to a tragic incident that overshadowed Virat Kohli’s historic achievement of winning his first IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
On Tuesday, RCB secured their maiden IPL title, marking a significant milestone for the franchise and Virat, who has been associated with RCB for eighteen years. The team was celebrated at Vidhana Soudha by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before heading to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for further festivities.
However, the celebrations took a dark turn as chaos erupted outside the stadium. A massive crowd gathered to see the players, leading to a stampede that resulted in eleven deaths and sixty-seven injuries.

The incident sparked outrage and intense online debate. Many social media users are demanding accountability, leading to the trending #ArrestKohli, with some criticizing the former Indian captain and RCB officials.
Critics argue that Kohli and other team members should share responsibility for the tragedy, especially considering the lack of crowd control measures. Some also questioned why Virat hurriedly left for London instead of staying to console the victims’ families, fueling further anger and accusations.
In response to the tragedy, Bengaluru Police have taken four officials from RCB and DNA Entertainment Private Limited into custody. An FIR has been registered against RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and the event management firm, citing charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. An investigation is ongoing to determine the causes of the stampede and who is ultimately responsible.
