Initially, The hosts India and nine other top teams in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings as of 31 December 2018 had got direct entries as the top eight were placed directly in the Super 12s and the next two being Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The ICC T20 WC latest update back then said that they’d join the six other teams coming through a Qualifier event in the group stage.

If Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had qualifed from the first round then they were suppose to retain the seedings of A1 and B1 respectively for the Super 12s. However, ICC T20 WC latest update has scrapped that decision.

ICC recently in a release made some changes in the Round 1 Seedings system, and has now made the tournament looked more competitive with Result based seeding for the Super 12 Round

It seems like the ICC had read our previous article. ICC T20 WC latest update now is that the team finishing first and second respectively will be placed according to their standings only. The teams will now however get the seedings equivalent of the position where they finish the qualifying round in their group.

The ICC T20 WC Latest Update In The Super 12s

“The teams that finish top of the standings in Group A and Group B, will take the position of A1 and B1 in the Super 12s,” read an ICC press release. “Therefore, A2 and B2 will be taken by the second-place teams in each group respectively. It is not done on Round 1 group seedings.”

Is what the ICC T20 WC latest update now says. This now means that Bangladesh will be playing in thr group of Australia, South Africa, West Indies and England. Another important point to be notes is Bangladesh’s net run rate. Their net run rate is one of the lowest among all the teams that have won at least a match in Group B.

Thus, Bangladesh qualifying for the main round as the group runner-up is very much possible. In that case, they will have to face England, West Indies, South Africa, Australia, and the winners of Group A as mentioned earlier. Bangladesh are all set to take on PNG today. A thumping win can give them a glimmer of hope to top in their group and thus, be in the same group as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and New Zealand.
