The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their player retention and release lists by two days. Teams will now have until November 17 to finalise their squads ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, which is scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16.

The original deadline for franchises was November 15. However, in a communication sent to all teams on Monday, November 2, the BCCI informed them about the revised schedule, giving franchises additional time to complete their retention process.

Despite the change in the deadline, there has been no alteration to the mini-auction date or venue. The event will continue to be held in Goa on December 16.

India-New Zealand ODI Series Behind Deadline Extension

The extension is understood to be linked to India’s ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. The fifth and final match of the series is scheduled for November 15 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

With the original retention deadline coinciding with an international fixture, the BCCI has reportedly decided to provide franchises with an additional 48 hours to complete their decisions.

The revised deadline gives team managements more time to assess their existing squads, discuss player availability and finalise the list of cricketers they want to retain or release.

The retention process is particularly important ahead of a mini-auction, as franchises must balance their available purse with the need to address gaps in their playing combinations.

IPL Mini-Auction to Take Place on December 16

While the retention deadline has changed, the BCCI has maintained December 16 as the date for the IPL 2027 mini-auction in Goa.

Interestingly, another international fixture is scheduled on the same day. India are set to host Sri Lanka in the second ODI of their series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

However, the board has not indicated any plans to reschedule the auction. Its latest communication has reiterated December 16 as the confirmed date for the event.

Complete IPL 2027 Auction Timeline

The BCCI has also shared the important dates leading up to the mini-auction. The player registration process opened on November 2, allowing interested players to enter the auction pool.

The revised schedule is as follows:

Event Date
Player registration opens November 2
Retention and release deadline November 17
Player registration closes November 23
Franchises submit final player choices December 1
Final auction register released December 3
IPL 2027 mini-auction December 16

The final auction register, which will include the player sets, is scheduled to be released on December 3. This will provide franchises with the final list of players available for selection.

Franchises Get More Time to Finalise Their Squads

The two-day extension could be useful for franchises still evaluating their retention strategies. Several teams are expected to make important decisions regarding high-value players, overseas combinations and squad balance.

Chennai Super Kings, for instance, have been linked with discussions around their expensive acquisitions Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma. Other franchises will also be assessing their squads before confirming their final lists.

With the revised November 17 deadline, teams now have a little more time to complete their planning. Attention will subsequently shift to the registration process and the final auction list before franchises assemble in Goa on December 16.
