SCHUTT

Australia fast bowler Megan Schutt has been handed a two-match suspension following a breach of Cricket Australia’s Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines relating to prescription medication. The incident occurred outside the competition and was not connected to performance enhancement, Cricket Australia clarified in its official statement.

The suspension applies to all international and domestic cricket, whichever comes first. As a result, the 33-year-old will miss Australia’s third and final T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on Thursday, October 22, as well as the opening match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026 season for Adelaide Strikers.

Cricket Australia Clarifies the Breach

In its statement, Cricket Australia (CA) explained that the breach involved a failure to comply with the prescribed requirements governing medication under its Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines.

The governing body stressed that the incident was a single occurrence and took place while Schutt was out of competition. It also explicitly stated that the matter was not related to the use of medication for performance-enhancing purposes.

Cricket Australia added that it would continue to support Schutt while reinforcing the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing Australian cricket.

The guidelines are intended to ensure that players follow the required procedures when using prescription medication, including meeting the relevant medical and administrative requirements.

Schutt Accepts the Suspension and Apologises

Schutt has accepted the penalty and acknowledged that she failed to meet the standards expected of an Australian international cricketer.

In her statement, the experienced fast bowler apologised for the breach and the attention it had generated. She also recognised her responsibility to follow the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines, which players receive regular education about.

Schutt emphasised that although the incident occurred outside competition and was not performance-related, she understood that she was still accountable for complying with the established regulations.

Her acceptance of the penalty brings the disciplinary matter into focus, with the immediate consequence being her absence from two upcoming fixtures.

Australia Lose Schutt for Final New Zealand T20I

Schutt will miss the third T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on October 22. The match is the final fixture of Australia’s T20I series against the White Ferns.

Her absence means Australia will have to make adjustments to their pace-bowling options for the series finale.

The suspension will then carry over to domestic cricket, ruling her out of Adelaide Strikers’ opening match of the WBBL 2026 season against Melbourne Stars on October 31.

Impact on Adelaide Strikers

Schutt’s unavailability will also affect Adelaide Strikers at the start of their WBBL campaign. As an experienced Australian international fast bowler, her absence removes a valuable option from the team’s bowling attack for the opening fixture.

The two-match suspension highlights the importance of complying with medical and administrative requirements even when an incident occurs outside active competition. While Cricket Australia has clarified that the breach was not performance-related, the governing body has reiterated that all players must adhere to the same professional standards.

For Schutt, the immediate priority will be to serve the suspension and return to action in accordance with Cricket Australia’s regulations.
