Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested by Kolkata Police in connection with a case involving allegations of rape and other sexual offences.

Porel was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 11 and was subsequently brought before the High Court on the same day. The case was originally filed on June 30.

During the initial hearing, the advocate representing the petitioner submitted that further action was required by the police to seize electronic devices allegedly held by the accused persons.

The court subsequently directed the concerned police authorities to continue efforts to apprehend the accused persons and seize the relevant electronic devices.
Police Directed to Seize Electronic Devices
The court’s order highlighted concerns over the possible dissemination of allegedly objectionable material stored on the devices.
The authorities were instructed to take steps to ensure that such material was not shared or circulated further.
The court also noted that the accused persons identified as respondent Nos. 6 and 7 were required to be apprehended so that the electronic devices in their possession could be seized.
The proceedings therefore involved not only the allegations made in the case but also concerns surrounding the alleged digital material and the privacy of the petitioner.
Porel Arrested on August 11
At the August 11 hearing, the court received communication from the inspector in charge of Mogra Police Station regarding the arrest.
The communication stated that respondent No. 6 had been apprehended during the night of August 11.
Following the arrest, the police sought an adjournment to allow authorities to take the necessary steps after the arrest.
Porel was subsequently brought before the High Court on the same day.
The legal proceedings remain ongoing, and the allegations against him have not been established as facts.

Porel’s Cricket Career on Hold
The arrest comes after a relatively quiet period in Porel’s cricket career.
The Bengal wicketkeeper-batter featured for Delhi Capitals during IPL 2026 but played only four matches during the season.
