Defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have retained their iconic trio of Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard ahead of the Caribbean Premier League 2026 season.
Using their Right to Match Options (RMO) during the CPL draft process, TKR ensured that the experienced core responsible for their title-winning campaign remains intact for another year.
The CPL officially confirmed the domestic player retentions and draft decisions on May 15, giving fans an early look at how franchises are shaping their squads for the upcoming tournament.
Pooran Continues as TKR’s Central Figure
Nicholas Pooran remains one of the most influential players in the CPL setup after leading TKR to their fifth CPL title last season.
The explosive left-handed batter has evolved into both a match-winner and leader for the franchise, consistently delivering under pressure with his aggressive batting and tactical awareness.
Pooran’s retention was widely expected given his growing stature in global T20 cricket and his importance to the Knight Riders system across multiple leagues.
Pollard and Narine Extend Their Legacy
Veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who won the Player of the Tournament award during the previous season, also remains a key figure within the TKR structure.
Even in the latter stages of his career, Pollard continues to influence games through power-hitting, experience, and leadership qualities. His presence in the dressing room is considered equally valuable as his on-field contributions.
Meanwhile, Sunil Narine’s association with the Knight Riders franchise continues uninterrupted. Narine has become synonymous with the Knight Riders brand globally, representing the franchise in various T20 leagues around the world.
The mystery spinner remains one of the most impactful T20 bowlers of his generation and continues to offer invaluable experience and tactical flexibility.
Additional Retentions Strengthen Squad Balance
Apart from the headline trio, TKR also used RMOs to retain left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein and all-rounder Terrance Hinds.
The franchise further strengthened its squad by adding versatile all-rounders Justin Greaves and Dominic Drakes.
These additions provide greater balance and depth, particularly in the pace-bowling and lower-middle-order departments.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Retain Key Match-Winners
Former champions Guyana Amazon Warriors also focused heavily on continuity by retaining several of their most important players.
The franchise used RMOs to keep explosive batter Shimron Hetmyer, pace-bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd, and West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope.
They also retained emerging fast-bowling sensation Shamar Joseph, whose rise in international cricket has significantly boosted his value in franchise tournaments.
Jamaica Kingsmen Begin New Era
One of the biggest talking points of the draft was the emergence of the new franchise Jamaica Kingsmen.
The team secured two major Caribbean stars in Rovman Powell and Andre Russell.
Both players have deep connections to Jamaican cricket and were previously associated with the now-defunct Jamaica Tallawahs.
Russell’s move is particularly notable after spending four seasons with TKR, while Powell joins after three years with the rebranded Barbados franchise.
Barbados Tridents Add Firepower
Formerly known as the Barbados Royals, the rebranded Barbados Tridents strengthened their roster by drafting spinner Gudakesh Motie and middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford.
The franchise also retained opener Brandon King and batter Kadeem Alleyne using RMOs.
Patriots Secure Experience and Stability
St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots added experienced all-rounder Jason Holder alongside veteran wicketkeeper-batter Johnson Charles.
Charles remains the all-time leading run-scorer in CPL history and continues to be one of the league’s most reliable top-order batters.
Falcons and Kings Build Around Familiar Names
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons brought in fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and explosive opener Evin Lewis while retaining Jayden Seales, Amir Jangoo, and Fabian Allen.
Meanwhile, St. Lucia Kings retained captain Roston Chase along with Matthew Forde and Keon Gaston as they attempt to defend the momentum generated during their strong 2024 campaign.
Overseas Signings Yet to Be Announced
While the domestic squads are now largely finalized, the overseas player signings for all seven franchises will be revealed at a later stage.
Those international additions are expected to significantly shape team combinations and title ambitions ahead of the tournament.
CPL Continues to Grow in Global Importance
The CPL has steadily evolved into one of the most entertaining and competitive T20 leagues in world cricket.
Known for its carnival atmosphere, explosive batting, and strong Caribbean talent pool, the tournament continues attracting top international players while also serving as a crucial platform for emerging West Indian cricketers.
The 2026 edition is scheduled to run from August 7 to September 20 and is expected to feature another highly competitive season.
TKR Prioritize Continuity for Title Defence
By retaining Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard, Trinbago Knight Riders have made a clear statement about their strategy for CPL 2026—continuity, experience, and proven match-winners.
With several franchises rebuilding and reshaping their squads, TKR’s decision to keep their championship core together could provide a major advantage as they attempt to defend their crown in one of world cricket’s most vibrant T20 tournaments.
