The Bangladesh Cricket Board has taken a significant step toward strengthening its team-building strategy by appointing Habibul Bashar as the chairman of a newly formed four-member national selection panel. The decision, announced on Monday, signals a fresh approach as Bangladesh prepares for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
This newly structured panel will remain in charge until the squad for the 2027 World Cup—scheduled to be held in Africa during October-November—is finalized. The move reflects the board’s long-term vision to bring stability, experience, and strategic continuity into the selection process.

The restructuring follows the departure of former chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain, who chose not to renew his contract after serving until February 2026. His tenure laid the groundwork, but the new setup indicates a transition toward a more collaborative and data-informed selection framework.

Nadif Chowdhury
Nadif Chowdhury completes the panel. Having played T20 internationals for Bangladesh, Nadif brings both playing and administrative experience.
Post-retirement, he has been actively involved in grassroots cricket, serving as an Age Group Selector under the BCB. His expertise in youth development could play a crucial role in identifying emerging talent for the national setup.
