According to ESPNcricinfo, after the IND vs SL ODI series; the on-field umpires, Joel Wilson and Raveendra Wimalasiri, along with the match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, and the TV umpire, Paul Reiffel, have acknowledged that they misinterpreted the ODI playing conditions. The umpires initially brushed off the bails to signal the end of the match, but neither team enquired about the absence of the Super Over.
The ICC’s playing conditions clearly state that if a tie occurs after both innings have been completed, a Super Over shall be played. If the Super Over is also a tie, subsequent Super Overs shall be played until there is a winner. However, IND vs SL match officials did not discuss any specific reason behind not having the Super Over at the time.
