In a move aimed to take Kenya cricket to new heights, the country’s cricket board has appointed Dodda Ganesh, a seasoned coach with a rich playing background, as the head coach of the men’s team. The one-year contract, effective August 13, will see Ganesh lead the team in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League and the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers.

Ganesh’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Kenya, which has been struggling to regain its former glory in international cricket. With a wealth of experience in coaching and playing, Ganesh is confident that he can help the team qualify for the World Cups.

“The objective is to qualify for the World Cups, both ODIs and T20Is,” he said. “We need to start preparing and start making progress. We have started preparing, and the signs are good.”

Ganesh’s connection with Kenya cricket dates back to 2000, when he played seven matches in Nairobi and Mombasa, taking four three-wicket hauls, including a 6 for 31 against a Kenya Cricket Association XI team. His familiarity with the conditions and his experience working with local players will be invaluable in his new role.

Ganesh has a strong coaching pedigree, having worked with Goa and Manipur in the domestic circuit and as a coach at the KSCA academy. He has also been a part of the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s cricket advisory committee.

His appointment is seen as a positive move by the Kenyan cricket community, which is eager to see the team regain its competitive edge.

Ganesh will be assisted by former Kenya internationals Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara in his new role.
