The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a possible host country for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, after rejecting a proposal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host the tournament.
The decision comes amidst ongoing political instability in Bangladesh, which was originally scheduled to host the event from October 3 this year.
According to sources, ICC is considering Dubai and Abu Dhabi as potential hosts for the tournament, with a focus on finding a country with a similar time zone and weather conditions to Bangladesh. The ICC is expected to make a final decision on August 20.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested additional time from the ICCÂ to resolve the situation and ensure that the tournament is not shifted to another country. The BCB believes that with more time, they can develop a plan that meets the ICC’s requirements and demonstrates their ability to host the event successfully.
