The West Indies secured a solid victory in a historic One Day International against Bangladesh (BAN), winning a thrilling Super Over by just one run. After both teams finished their 50 overs tied on 213 runs, the match went to a Super Over where the WI scored 10/1 to Bangladesh’s 9/1.

This match was historic because of an amazing choice of bowling: West Indies became the first major team in men’s ODI history to bowl a full 50-over innings using only spin bowlers.

A massive total of 92 overs of spin was bowled across the whole game—50 overs by the West Indies and 42 overs by Bangladesh. This set a new world record for the most spin bowled in any ODI match. In contrast, only 8 overs of pace were bowled, all by Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman.

The Windies used five spin bowlers: Gudakesh Motie (3/65), Alick Athanaze (2/14), Akeal Hosein (2/41), Roston Chase (0/44), and Khary Pierre (0/43). Their only fast bowler, Justin Greaves, did not bowl a single ball.

In the first innings, Bangladesh scored 213/7, with key knocks from Soumya Sarkar (45) and an explosive 39 off 14 balls from Rishad Hossain at the end. The West Indies’ chase was just as exciting. They were struggling at 133/7 before Captain Shai Hope’s fighting 53 off 67 balls brought them back.

In the one-over decider, West Indies scored 10 runs, and despite a nervy start with a wide and a no-ball, spinner Akeal Hosein kept his cool, restricting Bangladesh to 9 runs to seal the dramatic, one-run win.
