Mithun Manhas, a well-known figure in Indian domestic cricket, has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The former Delhi captain, who never played for India at the international level, could make history as the first uncapped player to head the country’s top cricketing body. He is set to take over from Roger Binny after a meeting of top Indian cricket officials on Saturday to finalize candidates for key roles.

Born on October 12, 1979, in Jammu and Kashmir, Mithun Manhas carved out a long and accomplished career over 18 years in first-class cricket.
A right-handed batsman, he scored an impressive 9,714 runs in 157 matches at an average of 45.82, including 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries. He was a dependable middle-order batsman for Delhi and led the team to a Ranji Trophy victory in the 2007-08 season.
Mithun Manhas also featured in 130 List A matches and 91 T20s. Manhas’s career spanned a competitive era, which kept him from a national cap, playing alongside legends like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly.
Beyond his prolific domestic career, Mithun Manhas also had a significant presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings between 2008 and 2014.

Since retiring from the game in 2017, Manhas has transitioned into coaching and administration. He has held roles as a batting consultant and has been part of IPL support staff, including with the Gujarat Titans. His administrative experience includes serving in the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), where he has been instrumental in developing grassroots cricket.
This blend of on-field and administrative experience makes him a fitting candidate for the presidency, continuing the recent trend of the BCCI preferring former cricketers for the top post, following Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny.
The deadline for filing nominations is Sunday, September 28, with the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections set for the same day. However, following recent trends, it is widely expected that Manhas will be elected unopposed.
