India had recently announced their squad for their upcoming T20I series against England. Most of the selections managed to impress one and all as many talented players were rightly rewarded and were included in the squad. Two out of those talented players incluced Rahul Tewatia and Varun Chakravarthy. His class performance with both bat and ball in the 2020 season of the IPL forced the selectors to pick him. However, as per the latest reports by The Telegraph, both Tewatia and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy performed well below the fitness levels expected by national players.

As per BCCI’s new parameter of fitness, a player either needs to score 17:1 in the Yo-Yo Test or cover 2Km in the time frame of 8.3 minutes. It has become essential for players to qualify either of the parameters to be eligible to get included in the squad. However, things don’t end for both the players here as they will be given another chance to perform up to the mark. A source stated that players are given one more chance if they don’t meet the expectations in 1st attempt. “It has been introduced to push fitness standards and maintain endurance. He will get more than one chance,” the source added. Both, Tewatia and Varun will be given another changes and haven’t been ommited from the squad as of now. All the players who fail to clear the fitness test in the first attempt are awarded a second chance to pass it and prove their endurance and fitness levels. Both Tewatia and Chakravarthy will be asked to undergo the tests once again. “It has been introduced to push fitness standards and maintain endurance. He will get more than one chance,” a source was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

However, if they don’t clear their fitness tests in their second attempt then they would have to he replaced. If that happens. Recent reports suggest that Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav are in line to replace Tewatia and Varun if their fail to clear their fitness tests. Ashwin has been in the form of life and has been taking wickets for fun. His good performance in the IPL 2020 should help his cause further. Kuldeep Yadav had an awesome start to his career and still has the knack of picking wickets.
