Yes, Roston Chase has been named the new Test captain, marking a new chapter for the team. The allrounder’s first Test in charge will be his 50th, with his previous appearance as captain occurring in an ODI and T20I.

His inaugural Test as leader will commence on June 25 against Australia at the historic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, initiating the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle for both teams.

John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, and Jomel Warrican—Chase was chosen following detailed assessments, including psychometric testing to evaluate leadership style and overall suitability. Jomel Warrican, the experienced left-arm spinner, will serve as vice-captain, supporting Chase in his leadership journey.

The decision to appoint Chase was publicly endorsed by CWI President Kishore Shallow, who highlighted the professionalism and strategic foresight involved. “This selection process is one of the most comprehensive we have undertaken,” Shallow stated. “It sets a new benchmark for leadership appointments in West Indies cricket.”

Head coach Daren Sammy also expressed confidence in Chase’s leadership, emphasizing his respect among peers and his understanding of the team’s needs.

Chase replaces Kraigg Brathwaite, who stepped down in March after leading the team in 39 Tests with 10 wins, 22 losses, and seven draws. Brathwaite’s tenure saw notable achievements such as a 1-0 series victory over England in 2022 and a memorable win at the Gabba in January 2024. Chase’s leadership begins amid a period of rebuilding and striving for consistency.

As a player, Chase has accumulated 2,265 runs at an average of 26.33, including five centuries, and has taken 85 wickets with his offspin. His first Test century, scored early in his career, hinted at his potential, but his batting numbers have declined in recent years, and he now faces the challenge of restoring his form.

This appointment signals a new era for West Indies cricket, with hopes that Chase’s leadership will foster growth, resilience, and success in the team’s Test pursuits.
