The highly anticipated cricket clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan was marred by intermittent rain interruptions during the first innings on a Saturday. The weather forecast in Pallekelle had hinted at overcast conditions even before the game began.
Just ahead of the toss, a slight drizzle had forced the ground to be covered. However, hopes were momentarily raised as, a mere 13 minutes before the toss, the rain ceased, and the covers were removed.
Unfortunately, the respite was short-lived. After only 4.2 overs of play, rain returned with India’s score at 15/0. During this unexpected rain break, the broadcasters attempted to capture a brief interview with Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, who was stationed near the boundary line in the dugout. However, Rohit was not in the mood for interviews. He sternly declined their request, instructing them not to shoot the video and to lower their camera.
Interestingly, the rain delay appeared to work to Pakistan’s advantage. When play resumed, they swiftly claimed two crucial wickets. Pakistan’s premier pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, proved to be the game-changer as he dismissed the prized scalps of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, significantly shaking India’s stability.
Rohit Sharma had begun his innings with confidence, managing to strike a couple of boundaries off Shaheen’s deliveries. However, the rain break disrupted his flow. Rohit was at 11 runs when the rain halted play, but when the game resumed, he struggled to add any more to his score and was eventually bowled out by Shaheen on the final ball of the fifth over.

Fans on both sides watched with bated breath as the rain played its unpredictable role in shaping the outcome of this high-octane encounter.
