Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that selecting between Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for India’s ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 squad will be a challenging task.
Jaffer opined that accommodating both wrist spinners in the team might be difficult, and only one of them is likely to make the cut for the 50-over showpiece event. While Kuldeep currently holds a slight advantage in the pecking order, Chahal has a chance to stake his claim by performing well in upcoming matches.
During India’s recent home ODI series against Australia, Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t get an opportunity to showcase his skills in any game. However, Kuldeep Yadav impressed with his performances, picking up four wickets from three matches at an economy rate of 6.10.

Regarding the bowling all-rounder’s spot, Jaffer expressed his preference for Ravindra Jadeja over Axar Patel.
According to Jaffer, Jadeja’s all-around abilities make him a strong contender. His improved batting prowess and solid performances in Test matches have bolstered his position.
On the other hand, Axar Patel sometimes struggles to complete his quota of overs when faced with adverse situations. Jaffer believes that Jadeja’s experience and contributions as a bowler, batsman, and fielder make him a more valuable asset compared to Axar Patel.
As the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies approaches, it remains to be seen if Yuzvendra Chahal will get a chance to prove himself. The first ODI between India and the West Indies is scheduled to take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Thursday, July 27.
