History was made. The Indian women’s team won their very first ICC Women’s World Cup title, beating South Africa by 52 runs in the final. This victory ends a long, long wait for a major trophy.
The path to winning this World Cup was not easy. In the middle of the tournament, India lost three matches in a row. They were in serious danger of being knocked out. But the team made a strong comeback, winning every game after that to lift the cup.
Here are five big takeaways from this famous win-
1. The Batting Was Strong

Throughout the tournament, India’s batting showed its skill. The batters proved they could rescue the team from any bad situation against any team. In the final, Shefali Verma (87), Smriti Mandhana (45), and Deepti Sharma (58) all batted well to help India put up a big score.
2. Deepti Sharma is a Legend
Deepti Sharma has now made her name as a legend of women’s cricket. She was named the Player of the Tournament. She did something amazing that no one else has ever done in a World Cup: she scored over 200 runs (215) and took over 20 wickets (22). In the final match, she scored 58 runs and took 5 wickets.

Every player worked hard for this win, including Richa Ghosh, Shefali Verma, and Jemimah. The team’s coach, Amol Muzumdar, also deserved this win. He was a fantastic player in domestic cricket but never got the call to play for India. It is said that ‘your hard work pays off somewhere and somehow,’ and this win proves it for him.
