Sydney Scorchers lift BBL title for record fourth time with Laurie Evans 76* : Final, Big Bash League 2021/22 Match Report

Laurie Evans scored an unbeaten 76 off 41 balls along with the skipper Ashton Turner half-century in Australia’s Big Bash League final in Melbourne for the Perth Scorchers to beat the Sydney Sixers and clinch their fourth title on Friday.

Earlier, Moises Henriques won the toss for the Sydney Sixers and decided to bowl first which was a good decision as Perth Scorchers were struggling 25 /4 after the first 6 overs. But a crucial and in under pressure the 104-run partnership between the skipper Ashton Turner (54) and Laurie Evans(76*) rescued the Scorchers and had a comfortable grip over the match.

Evans and Turner’s partnership took Perth’s total to 171/6 in 20 overs. Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe both took two wickets each for Sydney Sixers. Perth has been a master in defending low scores this season and they later on again proved it.

Sydney Sixers didn’t have a great start as the opening pair was broken early on while chasing such a huge target on the night of the final. Daniel Hughes hit a quickfire 42 before getting run out which was the only hope Sydney Sixers witnessed in the match. Andrew Tye did the damage to the Sydney Sixers with his 3-15 off three overs. Andrew Tye was on a hat-trick at one point after dismissing Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis, only for Lyon to fend off his third ball.
