Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its 16-member squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against India, starting on July 27 at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. The team will be led by Charith Asalanka, who takes over as captain after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down from the position on July 11 following Sri Lanka’s underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Asalanka, a former Sri Lankan U-19 captain, has previously led Sri Lanka in two T20Is during the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year. His leadership skills were also evident when he guided Jaffna Kings to the title in the LPL (Lanka Premier League) this season.
