Novak Djokovic proved once again why he is the king of Melbourne. In the early hours of Saturday morning, the 38-year-old legend defeated Jannik Sinner in a five-set marathon to reach his 11th Australian Open final. The match was a true “classic,” lasting over four hours and ending around 2:00 AM local time.

The journey was not easy. Novak Djokovic fell behind two sets to one against the defending champion, who had beaten him in their last five meetings. It seemed like the 2025 narrative—where Djokovic lost in the semi-finals of all four majors—was about to repeat itself.

However, the Serbian star refused to give up. He showed incredible defense, saving 16 out of 18 break points. Eventually, he outlasted Sinner with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

“I am lost for words,” Djokovic said after the match. “He had my mobile number, so I had to change it for tonight.” He praised Sinner’s high level of play but noted that his own intensity was the only way to break the Italian’s winning streak.

Novak Djokovic’s success was fueled by his legendary return game. Throughout his career, he has won over 31% of return games, and this fortnight has been no different.

At this year’s tournament, he has won 36% of his return games, breaking opponents 18 times. This clinical performance helped him overcome Sinner, who has been the best server on the ATP Tour for the past two seasons.

With this win, Novak Djokovic is now just one victory away from a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title. He will face world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday. While younger stars like Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated recently, Novak Djokovic has sent a clear message: he will fight until the last point.
