Veteran Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi is reconsidering his planned retirement from One Day Internationals after the upcoming Champions Trophy, hinting at a potential extension of his career. The 40-year-old, who previously announced his intention to retire from ODIs after the tournament, now appears to be re-evaluating his decision.
“These might not be my last ODIs,” Mohammad Nabi told the ICC, suggesting a willingness to continue playing a role in the format. He envisions a scenario where he might reduce his ODI appearances, allowing younger players to gain valuable experience. This change of heart, he explained, has been discussed with senior teammates, and his eventual participation will depend on his fitness levels.
Beyond his own career, Mohammad Nabi harbours a deeply personal ambition: to play alongside his son, 18-year-old batter Hassan Eisakhil, at the international level. Eisakhil represented Afghanistan in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup.

“It’s my dream,” Nabi stated, expressing his encouragement for his son. He emphasizes the importance of hard work, offering advice and support to guide Eisakhil’s development.
The upcoming Champions Trophy marks Afghanistan’s debut in the tournament, secured by their impressive sixth-place finish at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The team’s preparations have been positive, according to Mohammad Nabi, who recently enjoyed a successful stint in the Bangladesh Premier League, contributing both with bat and ball to a championship-winning campaign.
