American financial company Mastercard has taken over the principal sponsorship rights of the ICC. Meanwhile, the company has also acquired the core rights of BCCI’s international and domestic matches from Paytm. The company had also shown its interest in IPL.
American multinational financial services corporation Mastercard has replaced BharatPe as the global sponsor of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Over the past year, Mastercard has been aiming to bag some lucrative sponsorship contracts.
As a result, Mastercard has also acquired the principal sponsorship rights for international and domestic matches of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from Paytm.
The financial services unit had also shown interest in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the 2022 season, but Rupay had acquired the rights. The ICC primarily operates a three-year sponsorship and its partnership with BharatPe, which began on 7 June 2021, will run till the end of 2023. However, according to sources, Mastercard has already signed a contract with ICC for the next four years.
