London Spirit has brought on a big name, Dinesh Karthik, to be their mentor and batting coach for The Hundred men’s team. This is a first for Karthik—a support-staff job with a team outside of the IPL.

Mo Bobat, London Spirit’s director of cricket, was very happy about the news. “It’s great to have DK join London Spirit,” Bobat said in an official statement. He pointed out that Karthik is a unique thinker in cricket and his huge experience in short-form and franchise cricket will be “invaluable.”

Bobat also mentioned Karthik’s positive energy, saying he’s “great fun to work with.” He added that signing a well-known, high-level person like Dinesh Karthik shows how ambitious the team is.

Karthik, who also works as a commentator, has experience in this role, having worked with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 after he retired from playing in the league in 2024.

Interestingly, Mo Bobat is also the team director at RCB. Even though he’s coaching now, Karthik is still an active player and is currently playing for Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20 league.

Dinesh Karthik spoke about his excitement, especially about working at the historic Lord’s ground. “What an exciting time to be joining London Spirit,” he said. “To spend the English summer working at Lord’s is truly a dream come true… Lord’s is very close to my heart.”

The Spirit team has not yet reached the final of The Hundred since the league started five years ago. Karthik, 40, had a long international career playing 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20Is. His blend of high-level playing and recent mentoring experience is expected to significantly boost the team’s efforts next year.
