Kamil Pooran has received his maiden international call-up after an impressive debut season in the Caribbean Premier League, earning a place in West Indies’ T20I squad for their upcoming tour of India.

The young opener made a strong impression for Saint Lucia Kings during the CPL, scoring 273 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 159.34. His aggressive approach at the top of the order has now earned him an opportunity to step onto the international stage.

Shimron Hetmyer will miss the ODI leg of the India tour after being granted an extended recovery period following the CPL.

Hetmyer will therefore sit out the three ODIs scheduled between September 27 and October 3. However, Cricket West Indies has made it clear that he remains part of the team’s plans in the 50-over format.

The left-hand batter is expected to return for the T20I series, joining the squad from October 6.

His return for the shortest format will give West Indies another experienced middle-order option against India.

Familiar ODI Squad Named

The West Indies ODI squad largely retains the core of the team that faced New Zealand earlier this year.

West Indies lost that ODI series 3-2 in July, and the selectors have made only a handful of notable changes to the group.

Ackeem Auguste and Brandon King are among the players missing from the squad.

Auguste continues his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery last month and has therefore not been considered for selection.
