Still not the end of road for Bangladesh in ICC T20 WC 2021

It was just a matter of yesterday when several people felt that Bangladesh wouldn’t even make it to the Super 12 itself . Such has been the stuff competition so far. It hasn’t been easy for Bangladesh to qualify so far. As a matter of fact, Bangladesh still have to beat PNG in order to proceed to the next stage of the ICC T20 WC 2021.

Earlier, Scotland made it two wins in two matches as they registered a 17-run victory over PNG. Scotland for that matter have been in red hot form of late. They were the ones who beat Bangladesh earlier a few days ago. However, the Bangla tigers beat Oman yesterday and this, the likely scenario of seeing Bangladesh qualify has become all the more possible.

However, although it was said that the team finishing second in group B of the first round shall play in the same group consisting the likes of Pakistan, India, New Zealand and Afghanistan, Bangladesh would automatically be in their group. All they have to do just qualify for the Super 12 of the ICC T20 WC 2021. As confusing as it might sound, the ICC T20 WC 2021 shall see a mini Asia cup in itself if Bangladesh qualify for the Super 12. Bangladesh made a strong comeback in their 2nd game against the home team Oman

Thus, Bangladesh look all set to be in the second group of the Super 12 if they are to beat PNG. As mentioned earlier, in a likely scenario of this happening, We would witness an Asia Cup within the ICC T20 WC 2021. This is because India, Pakistan, Afganistan and Bangladesh would then be in the same group. If Bangladesh qualify for the Super 12 then one can expect a rise in the viewership as well. This is mainly due to the fact that Bangladesh is cricket loving nation and they would definitely be glued towards their TVs if Bangladesh qualify for the Super 12.

This was seen yesterday as well after they beat Oman by 26 runs. They are now placed third on the points table of groups B. Now if Bangladesh qualify then we’d see Oman exiting despite all the promises they have shown so far. The Bangladeshi opener Mohammad Naim struck a fine half-century to help Bangladesh set a 154-run target before bowlers led by star pacer Mustafizur Rahman and their class all-rounder Shakib, who restricted Oman to 127.

Both Oman and Bangladesh now have one win each, and will be vying for the only remaining spot to qualify for the Super 12 stage. Scotland, who beat PNG earlier in the day, have already qualified from the group.
