In a significant move in the Indian domestic circuit, fast bowler Harshal Patel is set to make a homecoming, returning to Gujarat after a 14-year stint with Haryana. The high-profile transfer follows the departure of his long-time Haryana teammate Jayant Yadav who has signed with Puducherry, marking a new chapter for the veteran seamer.
Harshal Patel has completed all necessary formalities and will be joining Gujarat’s pre-season preparations, which include a tri-series later this month.

This move brings Harshal Patel’s career full circle. A native of Gujarat, he made his List A debut for the state in 2008-09 after an impressive Under-19 season. However, he soon moved to Haryana after the 2010 U-19 World Cup, where he felt opportunities were more forthcoming.
This decision proved to be pivotal, as he made his first-class debut for Haryana in 2011-12 and went on to become a crucial part of their squads across all formats.
During his tenure with Haryana, Harshal Patel showcased his bowling prowess, claiming 246 first-class wickets in 74 matches with an excellent average of 24.02. His contributions were instrumental in Haryana’s success in white-ball cricket, culminating in their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy victory in 2023-24.

Harshal Patel’s decision to switch teams is driven by a desire to prioritize spending time with his young family, as he divides his time between Ahmedabad and the USA. He expressed his gratitude to Haryana, stating, “Almost the entirety of my professional career has been with Haryana, I owe a lot to them.”
While he hasn’t been a regular in red-ball cricket in recent seasons, the 34-year-old remains a force in the IPL, coming off a strong season with Sunrisers Hyderabad. While an India comeback is not on his mind, Harshal Patel is eager to contribute his experience and skill to his home team, Gujarat.
