India have announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball assignments against Ireland and England, with the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and the inclusion of Virat Kohli for the ODI series against England, subject to fitness clearance. The selections mark another step in India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup and underline the management’s focus on balancing experience with emerging talent.
The tour begins with two T20Is against Ireland before India head to England for a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI leg. While several familiar names have returned, a few notable absentees continue to remain on the sidelines due to injuries and rehabilitation concerns.
Bumrah Back After Managed Break
Jasprit Bumrah returns to the ODI setup after being rested for the one-off Test and the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The Indian management had opted to manage the fast bowler’s workload carefully, ensuring that he remained fresh for more demanding assignments.
The 32-year-old remains the leader of India’s pace attack and his return will provide a significant boost ahead of a challenging tour of England. Bumrah’s ability to deliver breakthroughs in all phases of the innings makes him indispensable to India’s ODI plans.
His comeback also strengthens India’s preparations for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, where experience and quality pace bowling will be crucial.
Kohli Named, Fitness Clearance Pending
Veteran batter Virat Kohli has also been included in the ODI squad, although his participation remains subject to fitness clearance.
Kohli suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final and subsequently missed the ODI series against Afghanistan. In his absence, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was drafted into the squad, but the left-hander has not been retained for the England tour.
Should Kohli receive medical clearance, India will regain one of their most experienced batters and a player who has consistently delivered in English conditions over the years.
Harshit Rana Returns After Injury Layoff
Another notable comeback is that of Harshit Rana. The all-rounder had impressed during India’s series against New Zealand earlier this year, contributing with both bat and ball before suffering a right knee lateral meniscus tear.
The injury required surgery and ruled him out of the T20 World Cup and the entire IPL season. Having recently rejoined the setup for the final ODI against Afghanistan, Harshit has now earned a place in the squad for England.
His return comes at the expense of Prince Yadav, while Gurnoor Brar, who impressed during his debut series against Afghanistan, has managed to retain his place.
Axar Patel Recalled, Jadeja Still Overlooked
India have recalled Axar Patel to the ODI side, replacing Harsh Dubey, who featured against Afghanistan.
The all-rounder was last part of India’s ODI squad during the Australia series in October but has not played a 50-over international since then. His return adds depth to both the batting and spin departments.
However, Ravindra Jadeja continues to remain out of India’s ODI plans. Washington Sundar has retained his position as the spin-bowling all-rounder, suggesting that the selectors are continuing with a younger combination.
Hardik Pandya Yet to Return
One of the major absentees remains Hardik Pandya. The Mumbai Indians captain was originally selected for the Afghanistan ODI series but suffered another setback during rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Pandya had struggled with back spasms during IPL 2026, forcing him to miss four matches. It is understood that he later sustained an additional leg injury, delaying his comeback further.
With fitness concerns continuing to trouble the star all-rounder, the team management appears unwilling to rush him back into international cricket.

Varun Chakaravarthy Ruled Out of T20Is
The BCCI also provided an update on mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who is currently recovering from a left foot injury suffered during IPL 2026.
Although he is nearing the final stages of rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, the spinner has been ruled out of the T20I series against Ireland.
His absence opens up opportunities for other spin options as India continue to experiment with combinations ahead of future ICC events.
Young Talent Continues to Get Opportunities
India’s T20I squad reflects the selectors’ commitment to nurturing young players. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned another call-up, while Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, and Nitish Kumar Reddy continue to feature prominently in the setup.
Shreyas Iyer will captain the T20I side, with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain. The squad also includes wicketkeepers Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.
Meanwhile, experienced names such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will focus solely on the ODI leg of the tour.

India’s tour begins with two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 before the team heads to England for a five-match T20I series starting July 1. The ODI series will follow with matches scheduled in Birmingham, Cardiff, and Lord’s.
With the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle gathering momentum, the upcoming tour represents an important opportunity for India to refine combinations, reintegrate senior players, and assess the progress of emerging stars. The returns of Bumrah and potentially Kohli provide a major boost, while several youngsters will be eager to cement their places in the national setup.
