Indonesia’s Abhiram Singh Yadav has been elected to the International Cricket Council’s Chief Executives Committee (CEC) as one of the representatives for Associate Members.

Yadav secured the position after winning an online election held over the past three days. He will occupy one of the three CEC positions reserved for Associate members of the ICC and will serve in the role until June 2027.

The election marks another important step for Indonesia’s growing presence in international cricket, with Yadav already involved in an ambitious project aimed at developing cricket infrastructure in Bali.

Yadav Wins Associate Member Election

Yadav was one of four candidates competing for the Associate representative position in the online election.

He received 30 of the 43 votes cast, comfortably securing the position ahead of his competitors. Sarah Gomersall, Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Cricket, received nine votes, while Vignesh Sankaran, vice-president of Germany’s Deutscher Cricket Bund, collected three.

The remaining candidate did not receive enough votes to secure the position.

Yadav’s election follows reports earlier in September that he was among the contenders for the role.

Replaces Gurumurthy Palani

Yadav will replace Gurumurthy Palani, who previously occupied the Associate representative position before being elected to the ICC Board.

His appointment is initially valid until June 2027. Fresh elections will then be held to determine the representatives who will serve for the next two-year term.

The CEC plays an important role in the administration and development of international cricket, making the Associate Member representation significant for countries outside the ICC’s Full Member group.

Bali Cricket Project Adds to Yadav’s Profile

Yadav has been involved in efforts to expand cricket in Indonesia, particularly through the development of a major cricket facility in Bali.

He is spearheading the development of the Bali International Oval, an ambitious project intended to become a flagship cricket venue for the country.

The project is part of broader efforts to establish stronger cricket infrastructure in a nation where the sport is still developing.

His involvement in the project has given Yadav experience in cricket development and administration, areas that could prove useful in his new role on the ICC CEC.

Yadav Pledges Cooperation With Jay Shah

Following his election, Yadav said he was ready to work closely with ICC Chairman Jay Shah and other senior officials to support the expansion of the game.

Yadav praised Shah’s approach towards developing cricket beyond its traditional markets and highlighted areas such as new audiences, women’s cricket and innovation.

He said the growing importance of Associate Members should be reflected in the way international cricket develops.

“For Associates, that matters enormously. Mr. Shah has recognised the vital role Associate Members can play in cricket’s global expansion. We should respond to that confidence with ambition and action,” Yadav said.

He also outlined his approach to the new position and expressed his willingness to work with the ICC Board, CEC, management and member countries.

“As a CEC member, I am ready to work constructively with Mr. Shah, the ICC Board, CEC, ICC management and Members to help advance those ambitions,” he said.

Focus on Associate Members

Yadav also stressed that Associate nations should not simply benefit from the expansion of international cricket but should play an active role in making that growth possible.

“Associate Members should not simply be beneficiaries of cricket’s global growth. We should be active partners in helping deliver it,” he said.

His comments underline the increasing focus on expanding cricket into countries outside the traditional cricketing nations.

For Associate Members, representation within the ICC’s decision-making structures provides an opportunity to contribute to discussions around development, competitions, infrastructure and the wider growth of the sport.

Third Associate Representative on ICC Board

Yadav’s election also strengthens Indonesia’s representation within the ICC’s wider administrative structure.

He becomes the third Associate representative on the ICC Board. Canada’s Gurdeep Klair and Hong Kong China’s Anuraag Bhatnagar are the other two Associate representatives.

The ICC Board also includes representatives from the 12 Full Members.

The CEC itself is chaired by ICC Chief Executive Officer Sanjog Gupta, while Jay Shah serves as an ex officio member.

A New Role for Indonesia in Global Cricket

Yadav’s election gives Indonesia a direct voice in one of the ICC’s key executive committees at a time when the governing body is continuing to explore ways to expand cricket into new markets.

His work in Bali, combined with his new international administrative responsibilities, could give him a platform to contribute to discussions about infrastructure, participation and the development of Associate cricket.

For Indonesia, the appointment represents another opportunity to raise the country’s profile within the international cricket community.

Yadav will now serve alongside representatives from other Associate Members and participate in discussions concerning the future direction of the sport.

His term will run until June 2027, after which a fresh election will determine the Associate representatives for the next two-year period.
