The flagship limited-overs domestic tournament of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be seeing it’s 2021 season starting on the 10th of January. The breeding ground of many talented white-ball cricket players who are in the makings for a place in the national team, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has also been a place where cricket players who have been a part of the Indian team, come and polish their skills and even give some valuable inputs to the game of the younger players of their team. Even this season will be seeing some of the biggest names of the Indian cricketing circles taking the field for their respective state’s teams.

One of the biggest highlights of which would be the comeback of the Kerala pacer, Sreesanth, who will get a chance to play alongside players like Suresh Raina, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Dinesh Karthik.

 

During the course of the tournament, a total of 38 teams will be fighting it out amongst themselves to earn the title of the best white-ball team in the Indian domestic circuit this season. The teams have been divided into 6 groups, with the naming being Elite Group A, B, C, D, E, and Plate Group. Each group will be playing matches in the cities assigned to them from a pool of 7 names, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Vadodara, Kolkata, and Indore.

After the league stages where teams will battle it out amongst their group members, the tournament will go into the knockout matches, which would include the quarter and semi-finals and the all-important final match of the tournament. All of these knockout games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.

So, with the stage set, bio bubble restrictions in place and the players raring to go out on the field and prove their mettle, it will be interesting to see how this tournament plays out and which team gets crowned as the Champions of the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, on the 31st of January.
