David Warner, Australia’s opener injured himself on the field during the second ODI against India when he was fielding. Warner limped out of the second ODI against India after straining his groin while fielding as Australia secured a 2-0 victory in the three-match series. In the press conference after Sunday’s defeat at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rahul had a smile on his face, which indicated he may have been speaking in jest, as he reflected on Warner’s injury.

“We don’t know how bad his injury is but yeah, it would be nice if he gets injured for a long time. I mean I wouldn’t wish that for any cricketer but he’s one of their main batsmen so yeah, if he’s injured for a long time it would be good for our team.” KL Rahul said. Rahul’s remarks on Warner’s injury has invited sharp criticism on social media with some fans pointing out the former’s choice of words. Fans called the Indian vice-captain as ‘despicable’, who lacks ‘the spirit of sportsmanship.’ However it was clear that KL Rahul was only joking and didn’t mean any harm to Warner. KL Rahul had said in the virtual press conference. Although Rahul made the comments jokingly, his response didn’t impress many fans who reminded the dasher about sportsmanship as mentioned earlier. Despite the fact that he clarified his statements by adding that he wouldn’t wish anyone gets injured like that the damage had been done.

Warner got hurt in the fourth over of the Indian innings and was seen limping of the field. Australia have already won the series and the third ODI between India and Australia will take place in Canbera.
