MEGHANA

India batter S Meghana has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 30, bringing an end to her professional playing career. The right-handed batter last represented India in 2022 and featured in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 17 T20 Internationals during her time with the national team.

Meghana confirmed her decision through a post on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the experiences, lessons and relationships she gained throughout her cricketing journey. Although she is stepping away from playing, she has indicated that she intends to remain connected to the sport and contribute to the development of future cricketers.

Meghana Reflects on Her Cricketing Journey

Announcing her retirement, Meghana described cricket as an important part of her life and acknowledged the role it played in shaping her personally and professionally.

“As I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket as a player, my heart is overflowing with gratitude,” she wrote.

She also reflected on the values she learned on the field, highlighting resilience, humility and the friendships she developed throughout her career.

Meghana made it clear that retirement would not mean a complete separation from cricket. She plans to dedicate herself to giving back to the game, mentoring young players and supporting the next generation of cricketers.

International Career With India

Meghana made her T20I debut against the West Indies in Vijayawada in November 2016. She subsequently made her ODI debut against New Zealand in Queenstown in February 2022.

Her international career included three ODIs, in which she scored 114 runs, and 17 T20Is, where she accumulated 258 runs. She registered a half-century in each of the two white-ball formats.

Although her international appearances were limited, Meghana represented India across both formats and gained experience competing at the highest level of women’s cricket.

Her last appearance for the Indian team came in 2022, after which she continued to feature in domestic and franchise cricket.

Three Seasons in the Women’s Premier League

Meghana also participated in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), appearing across three seasons between 2023 and 2025.

She began her WPL career with Gujarat Giants in the inaugural 2023 season before joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the 2024 and 2025 editions.

Across 15 WPL matches, she scored 302 runs, including one half-century. Her final WPL appearance came in 2025, marking the end of her participation in the competition before announcing her retirement.

The WPL provided Meghana with another platform to compete alongside established international players and contribute to the growing women’s franchise cricket landscape in India.

Meghana Plans to Remain Connected to Cricket

While announcing the end of her playing career, Meghana emphasised that her relationship with cricket would continue.

“While my cricket days come to an end, my bond with cricket will never break,” she wrote, adding that she intended to focus on mentoring the next generation and serving the sport that had given her so much.

Her plans suggest a possible transition towards coaching, mentoring or other roles within the cricketing ecosystem, although she has not specified a particular position.

Meghana’s retirement marks the conclusion of a journey that included representing India internationally and competing in the Women’s Premier League. As she moves into the next phase of her life, her stated ambition is to use her experience to support and inspire aspiring cricketers.
