The IPL 2026 player auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 at ITC Grand Goa, with the auction briefing planned for December 15. The development came to light after the BCCI logistics team circulated a WhatsApp message to IPL franchises on Saturday. However, an official email confirming the date and venue has not yet been sent to franchise owners or chief executives.

According to the message circulated by the BCCI, “The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026.”

Several IPL franchises have confirmed receiving the communication. The message also requested details about the size of each franchise’s delegation expected to attend the auction, allowing teams to begin planning their travel and accommodation arrangements.

BCCI Yet to Send Formal Confirmation

The communication is understood to be primarily intended to help franchises organise their logistics and make travel bookings to Goa. Since the message was circulated by the logistics team, the date and venue have not yet received formal confirmation through an official email to franchise owners and CEOs.

It also remains unclear whether the schedule could change at a later stage. A formal communication confirming the auction arrangements is expected to be sent to the franchises in due course.

Until then, teams are likely to use the information shared in the WhatsApp message for their initial planning.

Auction Date Clashes With India-Sri Lanka ODI

The proposed auction date has also drawn attention because India are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on December 16, 2026. Whether the international fixture will be rescheduled remains uncertain.

There have also been reports suggesting that the venue of the opening ODI, scheduled for December 13 in New Delhi, could be changed. However, the BCCI recently denied plans to shift that match.

With the IPL auction and an India international fixture scheduled for the same day, further clarity from the BCCI is awaited.

For now, December 16 remains the date communicated to franchises for the IPL 2026 player auction, with the briefing scheduled a day earlier at ITC Grand Goa. The final position will become clearer once the board issues its formal confirmation.
