Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027, marking his first formal coaching assignment in professional cricket. The appointment brings the two-time World Cup winner back to a franchise he represented during the 2015 season and reunites him with former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Yuvraj has increasingly been involved in mentoring young Indian cricketers in recent years. Players such as Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh have benefited from his guidance, with the former India star helping emerging batters develop their skills and approach to the game. His new role with Delhi Capitals will give him an opportunity to bring that experience into a structured coaching environment.

Yuvraj Singh Reunites with Delhi Capitals and Sourav Ganguly

Yuvraj previously represented Delhi’s IPL franchise in 2015, when the team secured his services for INR 16 crore at the auction. At the time, he became the most expensive player in IPL history, highlighting the demand for his services following years of success at the international level.

His appointment also reunites him with Ganguly, who has recently taken charge as Delhi Capitals’ head coach. The former India captain and Yuvraj shared the dressing room during their playing careers, and they will now work together to help shape the franchise’s campaign.

Yuvraj expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the Delhi setup and beginning a new phase of his cricketing journey.

He said his longstanding association with the franchise and familiarity with its owners made the opportunity particularly special. Yuvraj also welcomed the prospect of working alongside Ganguly again, this time in coaching roles.

The former all-rounder added that coaching is something he is genuinely passionate about and said he was eager to begin working with the talented squad.

Delhi Capitals Look to End Their IPL Title Wait

Delhi Capitals have yet to win an IPL championship, and the franchise will hope that the addition of Yuvraj’s experience can help them take another step towards the elusive title.

Yuvraj brings a strong winning background to the coaching group. He played a crucial role in India’s triumph at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. His performances in major tournaments established him as one of India’s most influential limited-overs all-rounders.

Across his IPL career, Yuvraj featured in 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball, along with his experience of performing under pressure, could offer valuable insights to Delhi’s players.

At the international level, he represented India in 40 Tests, 304 One-Day Internationals and 58 T20 Internationals over a career spanning 17 years.

His appointment is expected to strengthen Delhi Capitals’ batting support and provide younger players with access to the knowledge of someone who has competed at the highest level of the game.

Parth Jindal Welcomes Yuvraj to the Franchise

Delhi Capitals chairman Parth Jindal expressed his delight at bringing Yuvraj into the coaching setup, describing him as one of Indian cricket’s great match-winners.

Jindal highlighted Yuvraj’s contribution to Indian cricket and his recent work with emerging players. He also pointed to the former all-rounder’s experience, winning mentality and ability to build relationships with cricketers as qualities that could benefit the squad.

The franchise will be hoping that these attributes translate into improved performances as it prepares for the 2027 season.

Yuvraj’s appointment also reflects the growing involvement of former international players in mentoring and coaching roles within the IPL. Their experience can help bridge the gap between domestic talent and the demands of high-pressure franchise cricket.

A New Chapter in Yuvraj’s Cricketing Career

For Yuvraj, the Delhi Capitals role represents a transition from mentoring individual players to working within a professional coaching staff. His experience of winning major ICC tournaments, playing in multiple IPL environments and handling pressure situations could prove valuable in guiding the next generation.

Working alongside Ganguly adds another familiar face to the new chapter, while his return to the Delhi franchise brings his playing history with the team full circle.

Delhi Capitals will now look to combine their existing resources with the experience of their new coaching additions as they build towards IPL 2027. With Yuvraj taking responsibility for assistant coaching and batting, the franchise will hope his expertise helps its batters develop consistency and perform more effectively in crucial moments.

The ultimate challenge remains securing the franchise’s first IPL title. Yuvraj’s arrival gives Delhi another experienced voice in its pursuit of that goal.
